Ryanair opens its first base in Sweden's main airport

Ryanair Stockholm ARN

Ryanair has announced a new airport as part of its extended network of operational bases in Europe - starting in October the operator will bring 2 aircraft to Stockholm Arlanda, the main airport serving the Swedish capital. The operator will launch 21 new routes to several international destinations in Europe starting with October 2021.

It seems that Ryanair is starting to switch to main airports. Stockholm is served by 4 airports, of which Arlanda is the most important and most conveniently located. Bromma is actually the closest, but it serves limited routes in Scandinavia and only one flight outside the region - Brussels (at the time of publication).

The other 2 airports - Stockholm Skavsta NYO and Stockholm Vasteras are situated at more than 100 km distance from Stockholm. The distant location and the pandemic effect have stopped the development of these secondary airports. Vasteras will soon be closed for commercial reasons and several routes from Skavsta have been transferred to Arlanda.
